What about map labeling tasks in Listening?

ielts listening map labelling tasks

Map labeling tasks are very similar to diagram labeling tasks. The only difference is that instead of a diagram there is going to be a map. Let’s see our first example of a map labeling task:

SECTION 2       Questions 11 – 20

Questions 11 – 15

Label the map below. Write the correct letter from A – G, next to questions 11 – 15.

map labelling task 1

11 The Mall                                               ……………

12 Kid’s Fun Park                                      ……………

13 Ice – Skating                                          …………..

14 Coffee House                                         …………..

15 Dolphin Show                                        …………..

  • You should follow the same strategy you would with a diagram labeling task
  • There are going to be more options than you will need
  • The recording will follow the order of the questions
  • Search for landmarks in the map to be your reference guides

Here’s another example of a map labeling task:

SECTION 2        Questions 11 – 20

Questions 11 – 15

Look at the map plan below.

Write NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS for each answer.

map labelling 2

  • Follow the same strategy you follow with diagram labeling tasks
  • This task is similar to note-completion too, so you should also be careful of the word limit in the instructions.

In this video I examine diagram and map labelling tasks of the IELTS Listening. I also share with you some general tips that it would be good to follow during your preparation.

Success Stories!

Hello Dori,
I would like to thank you for helping me out with your great ielts tips videos and documents for writing. I did it finally. And you are the one of main keys of my success. Overall 7.0- thank you again.

Sinan Agacik

I have been following from day 1 when I started preparing for ielts
I wrote the test first time after watching but your videos and got overall 7
But the individual scores did not satisfy my requirements for immigration
Then I went for 2 classes one in British council and the other with a personal trainer and took ielts a 2nd time that was even lesser than the first time. Later I didn't want to give up and followed your videos; did mock tests and appeared for ielts for the third time. This time my scores improved and I got 7.5. However, I lost in reading and writing. So again I appeared for the fourth time on 21 st April without doing any mock tests but only watched your videos and I appeared for ielts. Today I got my results and I got overall 8!
Lis 8.5, reading 9, writing 7 and speaking 7.5. I wanted to thank u a lot for your crystal clear tips and techniques to score well in ielts. I've now exceeded my expectations and I will receive an invite for immigration. Thanks a lot! :-)
